Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education and leader of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign has condemned the Federal Government of Nigeria for the reinstatement of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, to the civil service, stating that President Muhammadu Buhari’s “usual aloofness on such matters won’t work” this time.
The former Vice President of World Bank said this on Wednesday in a series of tweets on her Twitter page.

Maina was alleged to be involved in N100 billion pension fraud in 2012 and in 2015 he was charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on a 24 count charge bothering on procurement fraud, but Mr. Maina could not be arraigned. The commission subsequently declared him wanted hence the outburst that trailed the news of his reinstatement.
Since the news of the reinstatement broke in the media over the weekend, there has been harsh criticism of the Buhari led government with many questioning the integrity of the president and his commitment to anti-corruption war.
There has also been series of blame-trading between the leadership of Ministry of interior and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
Mr. Abdulrahman Dambazau, Minister of Interior, on Sunday blamed Winifred Oyo-Ita, head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and the Federal Civil Service Commission for the reinstatement of Mr. Maina.
Mrs. Oyo-Ita gave a rebutter on Monday, describing Mr. Dambazau’s claim as erroneous and misleading.
However, on the same day, Monday, October 23, President Buhari ordered the dismissal of Mr. Maina and called for a full report on his reinstatement.
But, Mrs. Ezekwesili said the “MainaGate is the most lethal blow yet to a struggling anti-corruption agenda that had the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) increasingly isolated by the attorney-general of the federation”.
